It is What It is

Time seems to be speeding up. Months come and go faster and faster.

People come and go, some we get to know and other remain strangers.

Good people suffer terrible misfortunes while narcissists seems to escape karma.

Most days remain calm, other days bring good news. But one day can ruin the whole month. The one day with terrible news get more attention that overshadows all the positive news that happened the previous 30 days.

We tend to count people dying of cancer. However, we fail to count the survivors and the tremendous medical advances we have made against different type of cancers. We still have ways to go, but we should be appreciative of the advances we have made.

Life is a cycle. We replace those who were here before us. I moved into a neighborhood with retired people. And more younger people are moving in. The neighborhood is being renewed at the cost of the previous occupants.

As I write this, the neighbor who welcomed me to the neighborhood is on his death bed. Just two months ago we were taking about the neighborhood and he was giving me tips on how to maintaining my house. Some pain on his back turned out to be cancer. Lung cancer that has metastasized to his bones and brain. As of the first week of 2020, the prognosis was poor and the doctor said he has about a month left.

He is a good man and I’m glad that I got to know him although it was for a short amount of time. Life is wonderful as it is painful. But we have to focus on the positives. I will remember him for his generosity and his kindness.

It is sad that we have to say goodbye to people who touched us in one way or another. At least my neighbor and his family has the time to say goodbye. Others families doe not get that privilege (RIP Kobe Bryant and his daughter and others involved in that tragic accident today).

Life can seem cruel and we might ask why good people suffer. But there are no answers. Life is just what it is.
